Word of the day: mon·o·ma·ni·a (mon-uh-mey-nee-uh) n. 1. Pathological obsession with one idea or subject. 2. Intent concentration on or exaggerated enthusiasm for a single subject or idea. I confess, I've been somewhat of a monomaniac this week, or rather a duomaniac, since I've been intently concentrating with exaggerated enthusiasm on two projects this week. It's been a glorious convergence of a) Spring Break (ie. not having to drive into town to drop off or pick up kids from school) and … [Read more...] about Tres Chic Play Kitchen
Sorry for the longer-than-I-wanted absence. It's been one of those weeks where you have about 10 things needing your attention and nothing's getting completed. I finished the pair of armchairs that I had been working on. The stamp on the bottom said that these are from Henredon Fine Furniture, which (I learned from Google) is a very hoity toity big deal furniture company. They are very well made and comfy chairs. I showed you in my last post how they looked when I brought them home from the … [Read more...] about Damask and Denim
Well, Cara and I have been hard at work all week on projects, but don't have any completed pieces to show you good folks as of yet. We don't want to break the pace and leave you hanging with no word from the TL gals, so I thought I'd do a little post on (arguably) the cutest, most rewarding, heaviest used, most FUN project I've ever taken on (and I've taken on more than my fair share in my day): The Play Kitchen I built for my Bugga Boo this past Christmas! DON'T MISS: A Comfy Cast-off OR A … [Read more...] about The Bugga Boo’s Play Kitchen
I made an adorable little back pillow for the Turquoise Chair last night. LOVE it!! Definitely puts the exclamation point on the project, don't you think? This one's ready to go... I'm going over to Cara's house this morning so we can work on a dining room table and chairs and the pair of arm chairs I picked up at the GW on Saturday. The creative juices are a-flowin'! Can't wait to get stuff done to show you all! SEE ALSO: A Comfy Cast-off OR A Turquoise Transformation Happy … [Read more...] about Final Touch on the Turquoise Chair!
This isn't a Twice Lovely project, but I thought you might be interested to see a furniture re-do that I did a while ago for my home. Our old tube TV had finally bit the dust, and after we did a little happy dance that we could now justify the purchase of a new flat screen HDTV, I started looking around for an entertainment center to house said flat screen. SHEESH!! Those things are pricey! Even at discount type stores, the kind I wanted with lots of storage and the place above the TV for the … [Read more...] about China Hutch Turned Entertainment Center
This was actually the first piece I redid once deciding to set out on this adventure of furniture rehab for pay (so far it's been all rehab and no pay, but hopefully that changes soon.) The perplexed husband (unfortunately) deleted the before pics from the camera, teaching me the all-too-valuable lesson that I need to be quicker about moving things off the camera and onto my computer...but I digress (better get used to that too.) :) So, all I have to give you an idea of this chair's … [Read more...] about A Lady’s Sitting Chair
I really like alliteration. Better get used to it. Though I am an extreme newbie to blogging (having only begun within the last hour) I have spent many-an-hour on many-a-day pouring over the blogs of wonderful, creative, and entertaining women. Women who, I must say, I feel like I know. I've been incredibly inspired by likes of Miss Mustard Seed, Holly of Life in the Fun Lane and White Berry, and Lisa at Recaptured Charm, each of whom have been able to forge a business out of beautifying old … [Read more...] about A Comfy Cast-off OR A Turquoise Transformation
Hi! I'm Ann Marie. My best friend Cara and I (both stay at moms with 8 between us) have decided to team up to make cast-off, out-of-date or otherwise down-trodden furniture fresh, stylish, and lovely once more. I'm a bargain-shopping junkie, dumpster-diving, upcycling, glue-gun-wielding, husband-perplexing, craft-a-holic. Hope you can relate. ;) My background is in interior design, and I have an insatiable hunger to create. My mind is always swirling with ideas, and this is a great way to … [Read more...] about My First Post!! – Introduction
